Vintage Pizza found its humble beginnings all the way back in 2019 when owners Isaac, Esther and Ben Troup posed the question to each other about starting a vintage clothing business. It was as simple as that, and like striking a match, the rest is history. They adopted a learn-as-they-go model with each sibling picking up a new skill like content creation and stocktake.

But with the internet on their side and a whole lot of gumption, they managed to build their very own website and officially kickstart the business! Together, they slowly built a loyal following through funny reels, going to markets and getting to know the vintage community. This glowing passion for all things vintage eventually sparked the creation of what would become Adelaide’s biggest marketplace, My Dead Grandpa.

But at the centre of where it all began, Vintage Pizza is still faithfully running and continues to restock regularly, keeping their initial mission of “vintage being affordable and set at a price point that anybody can have a look at” very much alive and well!

In terms of what they curate, Ben told us “we kind of have a bit of a mismatch of everything.” They have t-shirts galore ranging from sports tees to band tees, all the way to the weird and whacky ones that has even grandpa scratching his head. “And that’s kind of the point of it, right? Like we have a pretty large variety and it’s always a bit of a treasure hunt”. Vintage Pizza has an emphasis on 90s clothing but their style can’t be put in a box as to them, the adventure is part of the appeal. Most of their stock is sourced onshore as opposed to offshore, meaning you’re guaranteed to find clothing made and distributed right here in Australia!

Local markets were essential during the earlier years of the business. The trio could often be seen doing the market circuit at pretty much any market they could drive to in a car filled to the brim with vintage clothing of all sorts. However, with the effort and fortitude it takes to balance multiple businesses, these young entrepreneurs have officially hung up their travelling hats and have now settled down exclusively at My Dead Grandpa in Adelaide’s CBD.

Typical customers of Vintage Pizza are people who are budget savvy but keen on vintage. They’re looking for a good bargain and champion the belief that “vintage doesn’t have to break the bank” as Isaac would put it.

With Vintage Pizza’s commitment to the local community and affordability for vintage lovers at all price points, it’s no surprise that they won the Australia Post’s “Local Business Heroes” and “Local Legend” award in 2022! Grandpa is very proud.

“Vintage Pizza was really just the expression of our love for clothes and wanting to share our taste in an affordable medium.”
